The boulder darter is currently known only from the Elk River in Tennessee and Alabama. Around 1900, boulder darters were known from Shoal Creek in Alabama. Re-introductions into Shoal Creek could restore that population. Currently, we propagate boulder darters for bolstering the Elk River population.
