AS OF 7/21/22 PLANS HAVE BEEN CHANGED DUE TO STORMS.
We will still be on-site during the snorkeling time block. An evaluation will be done that day as to whether the water is safe to enter.
Calling all supporters of the Little River!
We invite you out to River John’s Island for a weekend of outdoor fun! In coordination with the Little River Watershed Association we present to you, Little River Community Day.
There is no cost for attendance, but donations to Conservation Fisheries will be accepted all weekend.
Attendance
If you plan to attend, please fill out the following form to give event-organizers a better idea of how many people to expect. - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdGcolsUdLQ7a5-VKabq6oi9Q6RBegszPDcAbLAEY128oeiMQ/viewform
Please note that you do not have to stay all day to enjoy the fun! We encourage you to come and go as you please.
Saturday
10:30am - 4pm: Snorkeling and Seining the Little River with CFI
CFI staff will be on the island all day to lead a snorkeling excursion around the island. Come see with your own eyes the underwater biodiversity right in our own backyard! Masks and snorkels will be provided.
12pm - 4pm: Float the Little River
LWRA and CFI staff will host a float beginning at the Sevierville Bridge Pull-off to River John’s Island. Please bring your own floating device such as a kayak, canoe, or innertube. The float can last as long or short as you want it, depending on how many stops you want to make along the way!
4pm-6pm: River Fun, Yard Games, Music, and More!
Use this time for more fun in the water, fishing, or playing cornhole! We encourage anyone who is interested in bringing an instrument to do so and play freely during the afternoon. Have another idea? Works for us! This is time for the community and supporters of the Little River to connect and have fun.
6pm-7:30pm: Black-Pot Chicken and Rice Dinner, or make your own
A large dinner of chicken and rice will be provided during this time to anyone attending Community Day. If this meal doesn’t suit dietary preferences or restrictions there will be a grill available for anyone to cook up their own meal.
7:30pm-Nightfall: Camping and Connecting
Anyone is welcome to set up and camp for the evening. This will be a great time to continue playing music and chatting with others about our love of the river and the outdoors!
There is one designated bonfire spot near the pavilion where we can gather and share fire snacks. If you would like to have a fire near your campsite, it must be above ground in a solo stove, raised fire pit, etc. as to not burn the grass.
Sunday
Sunrise
On Sunday morning we encourage folks to wake up early and enjoy the sunrise outdoors. You may plan to cook yourself breakfast on the island, or pack up and leave!
Please remember to leave the Island better than you found it by picking up trash and not leaving any of your belongings behind.
If you plan to attend, please bring all necessary items that you will require to enjoy these recreational activities, including tents, chairs, canoes, kayaks, floaties, coolers, food, fishing rods, musical instruments, and whatever else you want to for this experience.
Please note that dogs are not allowed on the island.
