CHOKED OUT! A PANEL DISCUSSING KNOXVILLE’S IMPERILED URBAN CREEKS
In our current climate crisis, it is easy to think that there is nothing to be done if you are not already in the scientific field.
However, through sharing knowledge and helping our community, we can make an impactful change to benefit our local ecosystems.
In partnership with Mergoat, an organization that focuses on climate revolution through ecologically minded native landscaping, we hope to open up dialogue with the general public about Knoxville’s imperiled urban creeks.
There will be a one hour discussion with Bo Baxter, CFI’s Director, and Sorrel, owner of @mergoat.garden. An open Q&A will follow, and Remedy will be slingin’ beverages.
Bring a friend, let’s chat. There is always knowledge to share.

LWRA Stream School
Stream School is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or STEM-based event for kids, geared for grades 3rd to 7th, hosted by the Little River Watershed Association! Conservation Fisheries partners with LRWA to give children a chance to experience our streams in a new way.
There are four different stations including Water Quality, Watershed Station, Macroinvertebrates, and everyone's favorite Fish Identification, which includes a snorkel in the river at the end with Conservation Fisheries biologists.
This program is a wonderful way for kids to learn about the concept of a watershed as a whole and what species inhabit our watershed system, all while practicing critical thinking skills in an outdoors, hands-on environment.
If you have any questions for LWRA, you may email them at littleriverwater@gmail.com.

Volunteer Appreciation Snorkel
This summer CFI is hosting our first annual Volunteer Appreciation Snorkel! We are so thankful for volunteers’ contribution to CFI and are eager to have you all together for a fun day out in the water.
Rain Dates (if it's raining the day of OR had rained hard enough the week before that the water levels are too high): Saturday August 12th and Saturday August 27th
RSVP: Please email Shannon at volunteer@conservationfisheries.org if you can attend by Monday 7/25 so we know how many to accommodate for. If you'd like, you may bring one (1) friend or partner.
Where: Meet at CFI and carpool to a local snorkel spot (exact spot TBD; 30 minutes to an hour away depending on water levels)
What to Bring: We have wetsuits, snorkels, and masks but you may bring your own. Please bring wading boots or water compatible shoes (such as Chacos or Keens), or we may have wading boots that fit you. We also have neoprene socks for wading boots. Please also plan to bring a reusable water bottle, as it will likely be quite hot. We recommend wearing your bathing suit under your clothes before arriving, and bringing a towel and dry clothes for the drive back.
Other Notes: Please plan to wear a facemask while carpooling with others to the snorkel spot. You are welcome to bring snacks, but we do not plan to stop for lunch on the way.
Little River Community Day
AS OF 7/21/22 PLANS HAVE BEEN CHANGED DUE TO STORMS.
We will still be on-site during the snorkeling time block. An evaluation will be done that day as to whether the water is safe to enter.
